Happy Memorial Day!

Happy Memorial Day!

It’s a cool and crisp Memorial Day. With Memorial Weekend ending, summer vacations begin. Aspen School district ends on Friday with the elementary and middle schools finishing on Wednesday. As a child, I always loved this time of year. Three months always seemed like such a long time. My kids are looking forward to a busy summer. They enjoy school but love summer vacation.

During the summer they will spend some time at the Aspen Recreation Center. If you are in the area, it’s a wonderful place to swim, climb, ice skate or just hang out. You can check it out at http://www.aspenrecreation.com

Cooler today, beautiful weekend ahead

It’s much cooler today. I could even see my breath this morning. It rained for over 2 hours last night and snowed on the tops of the mountains. After a beautiful warm and sunny weekend, we do not appreciate this cool weather. It is suppose to warm up over the next couple of days and it looks like a perfect weekend to head to the mountains for Memorial Day!

The Base Village development is moving right along. There are many trucks going back and forth with dirt. One tower for the Elk Camp Gondola is up already. It’s much closer to the Crestwood Condominiums than I anticipated. Some owners there will have a very convenient location to the Gondola. No wonder they were big supporters of the project.

This weekend, I hope to hike the Ditch Trail. Located by Krabloonik Restaurant it is a very easy hike. But the trail should be dry by then and since we won’t go above tree level, we should not run into snow.

There’s still space this weekend for those of you wanted to get away for the Holiday. Give us a call at 800-843-1579 or book on-line at: http://www.mountainchalet.com

Hiking, Fishing & Rafting

With the warmer weather, it’s time to dust off those hiking boots and hit the trail. A friend of mine hiked up to Hanging Lake this past weekend. It’s located in Glenwood Canyon and a great for beginner to intermediate hikers. Kids also like this hike. The lake is crystal clear and there are many waterfalls. I think I’ll have to try to get out there this weekend.

Fishing on the Gold Medal streams of the valley is also excellent this time of year. The rivers are raging right now due to the heavy snow pack this winter so if you go out, talk to one of the many local fishing shops to find out where to go and where the trout is biting.

With the heavy run off in the rivers, white water rafting is a must for the thrill seekers. Go to http://www.blazingadventures.com to book your reservation!

Welcome Spring!

It is a sunny, warm beautiful blue sky day in Snowmass! Spring is always a special time of the year. As the weather warms up and the snow begins to melt, you can see the green colors slowly creeping up the mountain each day. There is still a lot of snow at the tops of the mountains, but most of the Aspen trees now have leaves on them and the grass is turning green as soon as the snow melts from it. The flowers are in bloom all over the Village. We are able to wear shorts during the days. But the evenings are still chilly getting down to the mid to high 30’s.

Construction is in high gear on the entryway of Snowmass and in Base Village. We do not hear the sounds at the Mountain Chalet of the construction vehicles so there is really no impact on us this summer.

Spring weather

Rain is in the forecast today. Right now it’s only partly cloudy. Rain is fine; snow needs to wait till next November!

Snowmass is busy with construction projects this spring. Base Village is underway and they are also realigning the entryway to Snowmass. Already, I am tried of the detours. They hope to have the roads up and working again by the time the summer guests start to arrive. Hope they are right!

At the Chalet we are busy getting ready for summer and of course booking rooms for next winter, especially groups. So far business looks strong, so give us a call to book your room when you know your dates. A couple weeks are sold out already!
