A beautiful off-season!

How we love the off-season! We are busy at work getting ready for the summer, booking for next winter and simply recharging our batteries. With the stillness all around, it’s amazing how much we can get done. Of course there are downsides to having 2 off-seasons per year.

We run a skeleton staff during the off-seasons, so those of us who are here must be flexible to jump in wherever needed. The biggest difficulty is the hiring and training of the staff just as the seasons begin. This is very time consuming and when your labor pool is limited, it becomes even harder. Winter jobs bring in more opportunities. We get many less people to choose from for our summer positions. But for today, I’m simply enjoying the day!

Weather has been nice; today’s a bit cooler but what an incredible weekend. For up to date weather go to:

Ski season has ended!

It’s another perfect day in Aspen Snowmass with warm temperatures and bright blue skies. The slopes closed yesterday so we are all gearing down for the off-season. Now we have time to reflect on the winter season, what worked, what didn’t and what do we change for next winter.

Overall it was a great year. The snow conditions were fabulous, the guests left happy and the employees ended the season with big smiles on their faces. Many of our guests have already signed up to come back next winter and most of our employees will be back. Now, we are looking at possible room renovations and what upgrades we may be able to offer our guests.

For anyone in sales, this is really the busy season. Groups are booking for next winter, and summer groups are calling to start working on the details for their upcoming meetings. But with the hotel closed, we will have a little more time to get all of this done.

Last week of the Ski Season

I’ve been very lazy the last few weeks with this blog. Two weeks ago it was extremely busy at the hotel and I was getting ready to go on the road so I had little time to even breathe. Last week I went to Mountain Travel Symposium in Squaw Valley, California. A beautiful ski resort, although I did not make it out on the slopes. I did get a lot of business done. Now, I am trying to get caught up at the office!

I am busy getting renovation prices, ideas, and proposals together for the owners of the hotel. It’s kind of a fun activity and a chance of pace for me. We are not sure exactly what renovations will be done this fall but looking at all options.

The ski season is winding down. The slopes officially close on Sunday. Hopefully I’ll make it out one last time. With Easter, birthdays, end of the season activities, this time of year becomes overwhelming. I’d be happy with just a few more runs before the slopes close. It is snowing today so that will help the conditions.

So if you want to hit the slopes one more time, give us a call at 800-843-1579 as we have some great lodging deals for you!
