2006 is almost here!

New Year’s is just around the corner. Wow, where did the year go? There are many wonderful parties to attend on New Year’s Eve at restaurants and private homes in Aspen and Snowmass Village. Check the local papers. Also, if you are looking for lodging reservations, several of the hotels have 1- 2 nights available. Personally my family and I we will go to a friend’s to ring in the New Year.

Last night we went to the Cirque D’Aspen. What a performance!!! These people are some of the most incredible athletes. The teamwork and trust it takes to perform some of them is simply amazing. I highly recommend this show. It benefits the Aspen Youth Center, a wonderful place for all of the local children. My oldest daughter has participated in some of their activities and loves it. They hope to make this a yearly event.

We had 5 inches of new snow in the last 24 hours. Skiing and riding is great. If you have not made your reservations, please call 800-843-1579 as we do have some space available throughout the winter season.

Oh the holiday season in Aspen/Snowmass

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas! With 2 young children our house was buzzing with excitement this entire month. The days leading up to Christmas, both girls had a hard time sleeping, getting up in the middle of the night, waking up early and of course getting to bed late. I still have dark circles under my eyes, but I did sleep well last night! Although I absolutely love this time of your, I am looking forward to school staring again and getting back into our routine.

The hotel is also filled with many families. Most of them are returning guests. It’s so good to see many of our friends each year. Today they woke up to 6 inches of snow. After a day on the ski slopes, I’m sure they’ll all come back with smiles on their faces and sore legs! The hot tub will be busy tonight.

The Holidays in Aspen/Snowmass

What a warm and wonderful day! It’s a perfect day to ski, snowboard, hike, snowshoe or simply sit on a bench and watch everyone go by. The Village is bustling with the Christmas season.

Last night we went to the theatre production of “It’s a Wonderful Life” at the Wheeler Opera House in Aspen. It’s a wonderful treat during the holiday season. Since this is a small town, we knew all of the kids in the production, making it more special for my children to see. For times and details go tohttp://www.wheeleroperahouse.com

Aspen Film Fest is also going on in Aspen. If you are in the area, be sure to pick up a schedule in the local papers or at the Wheeler Opera House. You’ll be able to catch some wonderful films and maybe even see a few of the stars. This is Aspen! http://www.aspenfilm.org

Snowmass Skiing

We received 6 inches of snow overnight and more is suppose to fall today. It’s another glorious day in Snowmass and Aspen! Attached is a link to an article in the Rocky Mountain News about the new lifts in Snowmass. Guests overall seem to be pretty happy about it. Next winter it will be even better when they get the Gondola to Elk Camp done. http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/winter_activities/article/0,2777,DRMN_23946_4328571,00.html Base Village and the Renaissance of Snowmass are the big topics in Snowmass Village these days. You can go to the following link to hear more about it. http://www.aspensnowmass.com/snowmass/base_village.cfm Most kids seem to be out on school break and the Village has really filled up. It’s wonderful to see all the excitement this time of year brings to people. Bright smiles, true excitement, energy (wish I still had that much energy)!

Another day in Paradise

Brrrrr, it’s cold out! Again it was below zero when I arrived at work this morning. A few high clouds and a chance of snow, but mostly, just cold weather! But this weather keeps the ski slopes in great shape.

We are all busy getting ready for the Holiday’s. The decorations are up and most gifts are bought. (One last shopping trip tomorrow). I need to send a few more packages out too. Many of the Snowmass Mountain Chalet guests have been writing their cards out here as we have taken many of them to the post office. Since the ski slopes open at Thanksgiving, November and December become a blur for everyone connected with the resort business. We would all prefer that Christmas be moved to April 25th! Today is the last day of school before Winter Break in Aspen. The kids are ready and excited.

Many repeat guests will be coming back for the holidays. It’s wonderful to see them and catch up on the year they had. We truly have incredible guests and feel they are part of the family.

New powder and sunny sky's!

It’s a beautiful sunny day today in Snowmass Village! We had 6 inches of snow yesterday so the powder hounds were out bright and early this morning. For more information on ski conditions go to:

In the local news, the voters recalled District Attorney Colleen Truden. Martin Beeson will take over her position. I don’t know either of these people but I do know that there were many unhappy employees and a large number of employees left their job under Ms. Truden’s her short term as DA. That is a big red flag waving to say something is not right! I proud the voters recognized the big red flag and feel they made the right choice this time.

The new Deep Temerity chairlift at Aspen Highlands is getting some wonderful reviews from the extreme skiers. I have not made it over there but hope to sometime this winter.

We have 2 groups in the hotel this week, the Jacksonville Ski Club and the Vail 50 Club. Jacksonville is from Florida and has been coming to the Chalet for many years. It’s good to see them again. This is the 2nd year for the Vail 50 Club. These are homeowners in Vail that have a very active club, trying out the area ski resorts. We welcome both to our home!

Ski News from the Snowmass Mountain Chalet

It’s another beautiful Colorado blue-sky day in Snowmass and Aspen. Tomorrow is supposed to bring us 1-3 inches of new snow. Snow is always welcome in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.

The Woman’s World Cup just finished in Aspen. It’s amazing to watch these people come down the mountain. Being a recreational skier only, I can’t imagine why anyone would want to go down the slopes that fast. My daughter’s 4th grade class went to watch the races on Friday. When we asked her how she liked it, she responded, ”Boy, there were great things to buy there, let me show you what I bought!” I said, what about the races, she said, “Oh, they were fine.” Shopping to her (she gets that from her mother), was much more important that flying down the mountain. The X-Games are at Buttermilk in January. We’ll have to see if shopping takes the priority over watching those extreme games. A cold and snowy day in Snowmass Village, Colorado!

Brrrr it’ cold!!

It’s been unusually cold, below zero for the last few nights. It suppose to warm up on Thursday! In the meantime the locals are all dreaming of the sunny warm beaches. Snow conditions are wonderful!!! The best conditions in years according to some of our guests. During these very cold spells, helmets come in very handy. Not only do they provide safety, they also keep us much warmer. We highly recommend you get one if you don’t have one already!

Tomorrow will be a busy day at the Snowmass Mountain Chalet. The 400 Ski Club will have their welcome party and the Ole’/Bodacious group will be busy cooking in the Breakfast Room for their annual Gator and Jambalaya dinner. I believe that we have the most unique hotel. Where else would guests cook for the employee’s? It is a special night for all of us! Thank you to the entire Ole’ and Bodacious groups for their hospitality!

Mountains of Snow in Colorado!

Snow, Snow, and more snow!

What a fabulous weekend! It snowed and snowed leaving more than 14 inches of the fluffy white stuff. Today we have our first site of blue skies. To check out the mountain details, click here: http://www.aspensnowmass.com/onmountain/reports/default.cfm
Today it’s COLD!!! But the slopes should be wonderful. Enjoy!

From Grand Junction to the plains the weather throughout the state has been very snowy and cold. If you are headed this way, a great place to check out weather conditions throughout the state is at: http://www.cotrip.org/

Most of our guests made it in this weekend despite the weather. I’m sure I’ll hear more about their travels tonight at our weekly “Monday Night Party”. Each week we host a party for our guests at the Snowmass Mountain Chalet Lobby. It’s a wonderful way to meet everyone and have a casual conversation.

Snow again in the Rocky Mountains!

Once again it is snowing in Aspen and Snowmass Village. We have had 7 inches of snow in the last 2 days. The weather forecasters are calling for 10-20 inches today! It’s a perfect time to dust off those skis and snowboards and hit the slopes in Snowmass Village. We still have some space this December at the Snowmass Mountain Chalet!

We are getting ready for 2 groups this week, the Ole Ski Club and Bodacious Airlines. Both groups have been coming to the Snowmass Mountain Chalet for many years. They have become part of our family and we look forward to seeing them again.

A locals children’s theater production opened yesterday with “42nd Street” at the Basalt Middle School. The children range in age from 7 to 13 years old. It is a very big production for children this age. There are 16 different songs and dances along with costume changes these children are running for the 90-minute production. It’s a wonderful show and I highly recommend it!
